The City of Santa Clara (132,048) is the center of Silicon Valley, just 45 miles south of San Francisco. The Water and Sewer Utilities Department is supported by 73 FTEs, a $120.9 million operating budget, and a more than $52 million capital budget for FY 2024-25. The Assistant Director oversees/supervises one or more of the divisions in the City’s Water, Wastewater, Recycled Water, and Solar Utilities under the administrative direction of the Director.
The city seeks an experienced and resourceful water utility professional with strong technical/engineering expertise complemented by exceptional people skills. Successful candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or approved field, four years of increasingly responsible experience in water, wastewater, recycled water, and/or solar utility industries, with at least one year of supervisory experience plus a Distribution Operator’s Cert D4. A Master’s degree, registration as a Civil or Mechanical Engineer, and a Grade 3 Wastewater Collection System Maintenance cert are desired. Possession of a D5 Water Distribution Operator’s cert from the State Water Resources Control Board is highly desirable and may be required within two years of appointment.
