WateReuse Association is in a period of rapid growth and is seeking a creative, energetic, and self-starting Section Liaison to improve the understanding and value of the role of the WateReuse state sections as part of the member experience. The Section Liaison will support the management and membership engagement functions of 12 state sections. The Section Liaison will work alongside another Section Liaison (to be hired in Q2) and report to the Director of Membership.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Section Management:
Serve as the point of contact for each section to schedule meetings, take minutes, manage correspondence, and maintain documentation as needed.
Assist in collecting data and maintaining records for key performance indicators; provide regular updates to the national staff and Executive Director.
Support the training of new section leaders through scheduling, materials preparation, and communication with new volunteers.
Update the national database with any contact changes received. Provide distribution lists and other information from the database upon requests from sections.
Perform other administrative tasks as needed to support the overall function of the organization and its sections.
Assist with the preparation and collection of quarterly section reports for the WateReuse Board of Directors. Ensure all section-related items are included in the board materials.
Membership Engagement:
Assist in outreach efforts to identify potential new members and support section leaders in engagement initiatives.
Track member participation at section meetings and events and identify potential at-risk members.
Help facilitate member onboarding and orientation for new chapter members.
Coordinate with the Director of Membership on outstanding invoices and prospects. Inform sections of membership additions and removals.
Engage with members on calls and events. Connect individuals to state sections to improve membership value and awareness.
Communication Facilitation:
Ensure that sections have access to the latest national resources, tools, and updates, proactively sharing information that is relevant to their operations.
Deliver national updates at each section board/membership meeting.
Send member communications via the email marketing platform as needed, this includes: Save the Dates, priority regulatory updates, and other engagement opportunities.
Develop and distribute newsletters to each section’s respective membership. Assist state sections with existing newsletters (CA, FL, PNW, TX) and work to launch new section newsletters.
Keep WateReuse section websites up to date. Post events, meetings, and content as sections provide them. Ensure that board lists are updated in a timely fashion.
Provide blurbs highlighting new members in the weekly WateReuse newsletter.
Collaboration:
Work closely with team members to facilitate section involvement in WateReuse initiatives, committees, and events ensuring clear communication and support. Create accessible tools for sharing resources and ideas among sections.
Schedule and facilitate quarterly section representative meetings. Coordinate with staff for announcements, and help ensure each section can have at least one representative on the calls.
Maintain the Section Resource Guide with new materials and current contacts for section success.
Prepare monthly section news-you-can-use email containing timely updates, upcoming events, and helpful tips for section management.
Provide the section portion of the Association’s annual report. Solicit input from section leaders on suggested bullets, provide to national staff, and review for accuracy.
Event Support:
Help plan and execute section events, including logistics and participant outreach.
Coordinate with national staff to ensure that section events align with broader organizational goals.
Assist with section webcasts. Schedule Zoom webinar, create a registration page, invite panelists, oversee dry run, and serve as tech support during the session.
Highlight section events in the national newsletter, website updates, annual reports, etc.
New Section Formation:
Identify states/regions where establishing a WateReuse section would be advantageous. Set up exploratory calls with interested utilities, business leaders, regulators, and decision-makers to discuss the benefits and the process of establishing a section.
Guide interested members on the requirements for forming a new Section, as well as the process of drafting a charter and seek approval form the WateReuse Board of Directors.
Work with national staff to develop infrastructure including new webpages, SharePoint accesses, financials, etc.
Closely manage the early efforts of the section to ensure continued progress. Schedule meetings, invite multi-state members, and expand the distribution list to include member staff.
Work Environment
Our hybrid work environment includes 2 days in-office in Alexandria, VA and 3 days telework. Some travel to the Annual Symposium and Section meetings is required.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree
At least 5 years’ experience working in the non-profit or advocacy sector. Experience in the environmental or water policy industry is a plus.
Excellent administrative, organizational and time management skills with concurrent projects
Highly motivated, self-starter
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Discerning listener
Ability to work effectively with a small team of professionals
Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and database management software, as well as flexibility to learn new programs.
